4th Street Bars Scene
4th Street caters to a professional after-work crowd, and is popular with the residents of the area's many hi-rise condos and apartments.
Suits, ties and wandering eyes are what give 4th street its distinct flavor.
That and a wonderful mix of restaurants along the street's length from the edge of downtown to the Elbow River.
The "district" begins with Tantra Nightclub, a great
hangout for the after-work office crowd, and with DJs at night. Just around the corner along 10th Avenue are several great bars, including
Whiskey.
Next, you'll find the Boy Named Sue bar on the east side of 4th, and the popular Rose & Crown pub just
shy of 17th Avenue, which has live bands on weekends. Both have patios ovelooking 4th Street. Right around the corner are a
number of popular 17th Ave bars including Lucky's (for the fashion forward set)
and the Ship and Anchor Pub (for the younger crowd). Just south of 17th is the newly opened (July 2007) BLVD (pronounced "Boulevard") with a huge patio, serving tapas, live jazz, and DJ music.
During the week, happy hour at James Joyce and at Earl's Tin Palace will always attract a mix of the business and casually attired.
Earl's is one of the city's notable "sugar daddy" hangouts, popular with young & beautiful gold-digging women. For dancing to a
live band (and fresh-made beer) head over to Wildwood Brew Pub, in their basement pub below the well-regarded restaurant of the same name.
Head across the street to the Mortal Coil, a casual hangout for the hip crowd.
