Top Five Patio Restaurants

Good patios must combine good food, good ambiance, afternoon sun and a great view.
  • River Cafe (Princes Island Park. 261-7670) This restaurant combines a spectacular view of downtown with rustic decor. It serves great prairie cuisine and Italian gelattos. [MORE]

  • Prairie Ink Restaurant & Bakery (2nd floor, McNally Robinson Bookstore, 120 - 8th Avenue S.W., 403-538-1898) This restaurant has an unobstructed afternoon sun, with a great view downtown office towers while being away from the hubub of the Stephen Avenue crowds. Well appointed with excellent hearty and/or healthy food, whichever you prefer. And you can grab from the city's best selections of books beforehand. [MORE]

  • The Ranche (15979 Bow Bottom Tr SE, Fish Creek Provincial Park, 403-225-3939) This restored 1896 ranch house, built by William Roper Hull, serves regional dishes, and has both garden patios and a veranda. [MORE]

  • Melrose Cafe & Bar (730 17 Avenue Sw, 403-228-3566) Multi-level patio, complete with waterfalls, hanging gardens and a great view of pedestrian activity along the Red Mile. The bar also has a gawker's rail along the sidewalk. [MORE]

  • Earl's Tin Palace (2401 4 Street Sw,. 403-228-4141) The restaurant and the patio was built from stones recovered from a Mexico City church destroyed in the 1986 earthquake. The back is quite intimate, and the side lets you peek at the Fourth Street shoppers and joggers. [MORE]
