Patterson Heights and Patterson Hills are located at the northwest end of Broadcast Hill, off old Banff Coach Road west of Sarcee Trail. Access from downtown is from Bow Trail to the very top of the hill, and then right onto Old Banff Coach Road. The 134 acre community has a 300 foot elevation drop with both rolling hills and ravines, providing excellent north views of the Bow River valley and of Calgary's downtown.

Schools
Public board pupils attend Olympic Heights Elementary (in Strathcona) or are bused to Wildwood Elementary. Older students are bused to Vincent Massey Junior High on 45th Street S.W. and Ernest Manning High off 17th Avenue S.W.

Separate board students go to John W. Costello Elementary in Strathcona, St. Michael's Elementary/Junior High in Westgate, and for high school either St. Mary's on 18th Avenue near Lindsay Park, or Bishop Carroll on Crowchild Trail SW.

View of Broadcast hill and Patterson Shopping
Retail facilities are limited to a strip mall at the corner of Old Banff Coach Road and Patterson Boulevard. Nearby Strathcona Square is the larger community shopping mall. Larger shopping centres are found at Westbrook Mall on Bow Trail, or West Hills Towne Centre near Richmond Hill.

Recreation
A six-acre public square at one of the two entrances into Somerset is designed like an English country garden with extensive landscaping. It includes decorating accents like archways, picnic areas, pathways, a pair of tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts, a gazebo, and a water park that converts to a winter skating rink. The residents' association maintains the park well above city standards, for an annual levy of $50.

Homes
Patterson Heights and Patterson Hill has been developed by United Inc, since the late 1980s. The homes are patterned after the colorful houses of San Francisco, appropriate for the hilly environment. The community offers a range of homes including terraces, apartments, houses, townhoses, and condominiums.
