These communities lie in a bend of the Bow Rive, just north of where it is joined by Fish Creek. Surrounded by park on three sides, outdoor recreation is the prime reason for living here. Access to the Deerfoot Trail from the community (via Bow Bottom Trail) makes downtown and the city's airport quickly accessible. Queensland lies on a hill overlooking the Bow River and is mostly single-family homes and some townhomes dating back to the late 1970s. Deer Ridge is further south, atop the hill, and Deer Run is on the southeast-facing slope and juts into the Bow River portion of Fish Creek Park. Parkland is named for its location beside Fish Creek Provincial Park, and has a 20 metre wide strip along the escarpment bordering the park ensuring full public access.

Schools
These communities are new and can provide only elementary schools for both boards. High School students must commute to schools north of Fish Creek, though a major High School facility is in the planning stages for the area. The LRT makes the University of Calgary, SAIT and ACAD very accessible.

Shopping
The small Deer Valley Mall provides most shopping amenities, and Macleod Trail provides a number of "category killer" big box stores to meet almost every need. The upscale Avenida mall is just north of Fish Creek, and Southcentre, the largest mall in the area is just north of Anderson Rd.

Recreation
Most of the recreation is around Fish Creek Park, with its recreational pathways that link tot he Bow River pathway system to the east. The community is very accessible to Lake Sikome (via Bow Bottom Trail), an artificial summertime swimming lake on the south side of Fish Creek Park. There is an indoor pool in Canyon Meadows, and two wave pools, the Southland Leisure Centre to the north, and the Family Leisure Centre to the east. Shawnee Slopes golf course is in the middle of the community. The Famous Players Coliseum movie theatres are right on Macleod Trail.

Homes
The community is mostly single family homes, with some multi-unit condominiums along Canyon Meadows by Queensland and south of 146th Avenue at Deerfield. The area has a mix of homes ranging from starter, to move-up and even Executive homes, especially in Parkside overlooking Fish Creek Park.
