[ Calgary-Neighbourhoods ] There are a number of communities along Elbow Drive, once it flattens out south of 50th Avenue and continues south of the Reservoir. These communities include (from north to south): Windsor Park, Meadowlark Park, Mayfair, Kelvin Grove, Kingsland, Chinook Lark, Haysboro and Southwood. These are mature communities with single-family homes and townhomes built from the 1950s to the 1970s. The area is preferred for its proximity to the recreational opportunities around the Reservoir and the access to the Macleod Trail shopping. The area is also close to Rockyview Hospital on 14th Street, and several LRT stations on the south ("Anderson") leg.
This is a mature community with a full range of schools in the area, with full range of schools with both the public and Catholic boards at all grade levels. Calgary's Applied Multimedia Training Centre is nearby on Macleod Trail, just north of Heritage. The LRT makes the University of Calgary, as well as SAIT and ACAD easily accessible to residents in this community.
There are a number of smaller plazas along Elbow Drive, but the larger shopping malls in the area are Chinook Centre at Glenmore Trail, Glenmore Landing at 90th Avenue and 14th Street, and Macleod Trail between heritage Drive and Anderson (with several malls along this stretch, including Southcentre)
Calgary Golf & Country Club is accessible from Elbow Drive in the north. There is an indoor ice arena on Heritage Drive, and a waterslide park nearby, beside Macleod Trail. Most of the recreation is around the reservoir, with a sailing club on the east shore and the south shore. Heritage Park is also just west of 14th Street. Also of interest in this are two wave pools, the Southland Leisure Centre to the west, and the Family Leisure Centre to the east(on Anderson). Nearby movie theatres are in Southcentre and at Southland Dr.
