The youth and alternative scene is definitely centered along 17th Avenue, gaining a new
reputation as "The Red Mile" and scene of post-hockey game celebrations.
Starting by First Street, close to that area's restaurants,
are the youthful Local 510, Ming Asian Bistro & Bar, the "alternative" Ship & Anchor (definitely the
avenue's anchor bar), and the very mainstream The National, and a pile of coffee places. You can also head up and down
Closer to 8th Street things move more upscale, with Fire N Ice Bar & Sheesha Lounge with its nightime DJ, the Roosevelt.
West a bit further, between 10th and 11th Streets are Boston Pizza with its sports bar and across the street the Watchman's Pub. Finally, towards 14th Street are Jameson's pub, 1410 Bierhaus, and Morgan's Pub featuring live music most weekends and Saturday afternoon blues jams, and The Pint Pub on the corner of 17th Ave & 14th Stret
