Black Diamond, with two thousand residents just east of Turner Valley, is named in 1907 for the nearby Addison McPherson's Black Diamond Coal Mine, as a result of a draw from a hat between that name and Arnoldville, the name proposed by the town's postmasters, the Arnold Brothers. The mines are no longer around but, the town's proximity to Kananaskis Country, the Sandy McNabb Recreation Area, the Bar U Historical Site and the Bow Crow Forestry Reserve offer year-round outdoor activities. Annual events include the Diamond Valley Parade (June)
