This town, to the northwest of Lethbridge, was named by Canadian Pacific Railway superintendent John Niblock who named it for his home in Lethbridge, which he called "Clare's Home". The town was incorporated on August 31, 1905 on the last day of the Northwest Territorial administration in Regina, which dissolved that day so that Saskatchewan and Alberta could become provinces in Confederation.
