Calgary Local Information

Bow River Wier and Downtown

Calgary lies on the Bow River, and about 60 km from the eastern edge of the Rockies. It is the doorway between the mountains and the vast preirie farmlands. We have basic facts, area history, Visitor's overview (for tourists in a hurry)


Calgary Local Government

Calgary has a strong a centralized urban government, without surrounding urban municipalities. Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper lives here, Alberta's former premier Ralph Klein got his start in politics as Calgary's mayor. Preston Manning began the Reform Party here, and his father, Ernest Manning, was Canada's prime minister. Calgarians take a strong and active role in all levels of government.
